Extended Far Eastern Private Chattels Scheme (War Damage)

I am writing to say that your letter of the 17th January, addressed to the Colonial Office, regarding your application under the above scheme has been transmitted to this Department.

I am afraid I can only inform you that the position remains as explained in the letters addressed to you on the 16th May, 1950, by the United Kingdom Representative to the Republic of Ireland and on the 22nd August from this Department, the originais of which I return herewith.

I should mention that the question of the eligibility of residents of the Republic of Ireland for payments in respect of losses of property in the Far East was raised in the House of Commons on the 22nd February and I quote for your information the reply given by the President of the Board of Trade:

"I assume that the hon. Neuber refers to the Extended Far Eastern Private Chattels Scheme which enables payment of limited amounts to be made to United Kingdom British subjects who lost private chattels in British and former British territories in the Far East as a result of the Japanese invasion, and have returned to reside permanently in the United Kingdom.

M. P. Rodgers, Esq.,

No. 89, Glenbeigh Road,

off N. Cir. Road,
